Got hired on at a labour temp service called "Labor Ready". They give day labour jobs. Paid next day. I was sent in to a company called Tree Of Life which is just a dry goods importer & distributer company. They have a large warehouse up by Golden Ears Toll bridge in far northern part of surrey on Langley border. Takes 25 min to drive there. Meaning at least $5 in fuel daily. Argh.
Reason I mention TOLL bridge is because the other day I took a wrong turn and ... Accidentally went over the bridge. Aigh! So tolled ... Then had to U-turn and go BACK OVER IT. Another toll. Ha ha ha. Can't but laugh. $7 wasted. $3.50 each way. F--- ... Rhymes with luck. Anyhow, I was giving a ride to my co-worker and we had a good giggle over it.
Well, day 1 I put stickers on large bags of candy popcorn. You know, replacing the English-only ingredients list with a bilingual one. Wow. $10.35 an hour to do that. Seems a waste. No wonder food is so expensive.
After that I built packing boxes and displays. Then filled them with chocolate bars ... Or rye crackers ... Or digestive cookies ... Or panko (Japanese breadcrumbs).
Imagine it boring, but it didn't get so. Kind of mindless. A nice change from the stress & pressure of teaching. Also, 2 of us worked on same thing so it was amicable and we chit-chatted, too. We got along well and had a few laughs.
Here's a few pics:
