Well it was really fun. Our friends Kevin & Tracy were visiting from Saskatoon and they came with us. In fact, the whole trip was their idea and plan. Tracy LOVES Black Sabbath. I like a couple of their songs, but I was more excited about seeing the Gorge again than I was about seeing Black Sabbath. However, it was rather awesome seeing a famous rock icon in person. Our tickets were for really close to the stage, so we got a good view. Also, it was the best sound mixing I've ever, ever heard at a concert. Yes it was loud, but all the instruments were hear-able and the sound was totally balanced. Very impressive. It was very interesting seeing Ozzy Osborne in person. He is shorter and more pot-bellied than I expected. He has jowls. Though I'm not poking fun. He is almost 70 ... Or he is in his seventies. And he did survive a near-deadly ATV accident about 10-15 yrs ago. So he does look a bit frail and did get a bit out of breath and out of tune. Anyhow the Gorge was AMAZING and the concert was fabulous. Tracy n Kevin were ecstatic! :-) I took a few pix. Oh yay, yay ... Yay! Clint got the call from Mobler this morning. Then he spent quite a bit of time haggling with them trying to get it delivered before September. No luck. So instead he arranged that we would pick it up ourselves today. And it's here! We ordered it on June 2. today is August 26. It's been very hard being patient. But now the wait is over. Here are some pix: Finally ... Our place is complete. Well OK. Maybe we need one more small thing. Clint is on the hunt for the perfect piece of art for above our sofa. But maybe that's for later. We've no money left. Ha ha. We bought this most amazing outdoor 'fire table' at London Drugs! Lorne n Pam had it/discovered it first, but as soon as we saw it, we had to have one.srled down to $300 or do from $698. See pix. We have sat out with every single night since we. Bought it a week ago. We also just today found the rug we've been looking for. At Mobler, no surprise. It's 5x8 and has the tinyest streaks of ed to bring on a cloud accent. It is polyester, but feels great and soft underfoot. Look at pic. Went to Kamloops with mama-Linda this past week. She had her BCTF summer conference to attend. We visited in-between times, but still had plenty of fun and visiting time. Also I visited mom-Aline and Kathryn. Kate n I spent one day geocaching and picnicking and wining (ha ha) at Stake Lake. It was so fun. We found 4 caches. The hardest to find was also in the coolest container. See pic. She also has an adorable dog named Doug. Also went to music in the park with mom-Aline and momma-Linda. It was so fun! One night was the band Cod Gone Wild and they were from the East Coast. They were excellent. The band on the second night was funk and I didn't like them much. It was fun anyhow though. especially funny about the ice cream. We all three decided to go get an ice cream cone - after seeing others at the show with ice cream. The dudes at the ice cream truck were flirtatious with us all 3 older ladies and overfilled our ice creams so much that we were more than shocked. Mamma-Linda couldn't finish hers. It started out piled up so much that it overhung her cone and dripped all over. I had to help her eat it down a bit by chewing off large globs with my non-sensitive crown teeth. Aline's was too heavy for her cone which was exacerbated by the crack in her cone and the whole snowball-sized blob of ice-cream plopped off her crumbled come onto the grass. We nabbed the entire chunk with a napkin and she went back and got a 'mostly' free refill. My cone was a duo flavor. I managed to eat it all, but I felt rather like a fat hog once I'd eaten every bite! They made the cones GROTESQUELY oversized. Way more than even a nicely oversized cone where you think you've been given an extra special deal. And I ate all of mine! Oink! Oink! Anyhow it was a lovely 'ladies days' me n moms n Kathryn. Wish I'd got a few more pix of us all. Darn. I guess I was too busy playing n having fun. Momma-Linda & I went to Abbotsford for Margeurite's memorial. When we arrived there were about 100 people there. Chess, her husband, had tents set up and appetizers everywhere as well as an open bar. It was a huge garden party. Which is exactly what Margeurite had asked for and specified. After a while, Chess stood at a mic and make a short welcome speech then spoke about Margeurite. Then Margeurite's son, Jimmy, m-c'd and said his own speech then invited anyone in attendance to come up to speak. Momma told a funny story about Margeurite making dumplings and they kept disappearing because it turned out that she'd used icing sugar. Ha ha ha. Then she said how city-wise Margeurite took her under her wing when Momma moved to big ole Vancouver from tiny Alkali Lake. It was a fabulous tribute. Many, many other people spoke. We all wept a little and laughed a lot. I was reluctant to speak but Jim pointed me out in back and invited me up. Basically I said: I got to see /reconnect with her only a few times a year - when I visited my mom as a youth, but she was one of the stars in my life. Everyone talks about people like that, but I think that I mean it a bit differently. We all have those sparkling positive people who influence us. Those people who were just 'there' and you knew they were there and solid and not going away and who liked and valued you. She was one of those for me. There and important and influential, even though in the background as part of the foundation - but omnipresent. Margeurite didn't advise me or assist me. We didn't get to talk often, it's just that I knew she was there and that she cared. She was a part of my life. An ingredient in my pie. Now that she is gone, one of my support 'stars' has left the earth and gone on to the stars in my sky. No longer accessible. Even tho I got Jim into mischief, like when he and I pierced his ear by hand using ice and forcing a piercing stud through his earlobe, she never held it against me. Him maybe, ha ha, she made him remove it the instant she saw it. Instead, she remembered me and did things like call me out-of-the-blue & invite me to Easter dinner (when I was in my 20s n 30's) when she knew I was alone. I loved her. She was a part of my whole. Now that she's gone, I feel the missing spot. Well, something like that. I will miss her. So when mom arrived, I went to the airport to pick her up and when I got to her she was standing outside one the sidewalk with just her backpack. I just thought that she's been unable to drag it out from the baggage claim - what with her new knee being only a month old. I thought she had left it and needed me to run in and get it. Nope. Mom said that all the passengers has waited for ages for their luggage then got stunned when the carousel stopped turning. A few minutes after that an announcement came on that the luggage from Sandspit had been left behind (On purpose) because a huge load of fish had priority! So, they'd been told where to go to register their luggage claim and, after much furor were at least informed that the bags would be in the next plane and would be delivered to our door. Naturally, though, the next plane was overfull and the luggage did not show up at the scheduled time. So then we started phoning about it. Every phone call of the many we made to the delivery company started with gratuitous sorries for the inconvenience (ugh!) and ended with absolutely no information. Air Canada does not track the luggage in any way. In fact, they contract out the luggage delivery - so the complaints calls don't even go directly to them. Grrr. In the end we phoned Sandspit airport itself and they gave us the Sandspit Air Canada direct number. It was from them that we finally found out that the luggage was all still sitting in a locked room there, in Sandspit airport, awaiting some extra room on a plane. This meant that another 2 planes had flown from Sandspit without all that left-behind luggage! it was About 36 hrs later! Grrowl. Momma was NOT happy and we were all totally getting a giant hate-on for Air Csnada. I told them that their service was terrible and substandard and that I thought that the govt should have let them succumb to being out competed and allowed to go bankrupt. So without mom's bag and thus no appropriate clothes, we went shopping at a thrift store to at least get her an outfit to wear to Margeurite's funeral/memorial. Anyhow, we FINALLY got a phone call last night that the bags were in Vancouver and would be delivered between 9:30-11:30 pm. We were pretty happy to hear that, but I was starting to be skeptical so didn't really relax until, lo and behold, the can arrived at 11pm. But the story doesn't quite end there because mom was sleeping when they arrived, but the guys' slamming the van door woke her up and she knew instantly that it was her suitcase and she got out of bed and wandered out to get it. I saw her out of the corner of my eye (I'd been waiting up) and dashed out onto the patio to shoo her back indoors because she looked like a half-naked sleepwalker. Now the story is over. Her bag is safely here and we will have it to take to Kamloops. Whew! Now all that's left is trying to worm some compensation out of nasty Air Canada. Gawd, how I wish there was another airline doing the Haida Gwaii runs. Need some competition there. It was a fun ride to Cache Creek. We rode up with Lee and Paivi when they were done work for the day. Arrived in Cache Creek by 7 pm where the "Pie Eaters" bikers group was waiting at the Sage motel. We ate dinner and partied all night long. It was pretty fun! Today we, us and Lee n Paivi, rode the bikes to Clinton for late breakfast then went to Pavillion Lake in Marble Canyon. It was hot & beautiful. I had meant to take a photo of Clint with the 'Welcome to Clinton' sign but I forgot. So instead, I Googled an Internet picture. Ha ha. I also got an Internet pic of Pavillion Lake. A gorgeous supremely clear lake of many colours. We did slip on our swimsuits, which we'd handily brought, and went swimming. It was great ... Until a hornet stung Clint then another got Paivi. Nasty! We hung out a bit longer then headed back to the hotel in Cache Creek to hang by the pool. On the trip back, though, Clint got stung AGAIN when he hit a bee while driving the bike!! This sting hurt way worse than the first one. It was on his inner elbow and hit him at 100 kph. Poor Clint jumped physically in the air when it hit him - but he did keep hold of the handlebars. As soon as we got back to the motel we got ice and iced it. Then Clint went to bed. (I'd given him 2 Benadryl so they knocked him out. And if course we were also tired from partying late so needed the sleep anyhow. ) Right now I am going to head outside to see if I can see any meteors. It's Perseids time! And they are supposed to be visible around midnight - not the usual 4 am - and up to 100 an hour. Not doing much the past couple days. Came home from Whistler. The farmer's market was fun and swimming at Lost Lake was a delight. ( see pix). Clint home from boy's trip. Safe n sound. They only motorbiked the whole 5 days he was in Okanagan. No boating. He hauled the boat up there for naught. We have just left home for a 3 day trip. Biked to Randy's to watch football. Tomorrow we go on Cache Creek ride. Overnight there. Then maybe Sunday going on to Okanagan w Lee & Paivi on a ride. So ... fun, but nothing extraordinary. Might post pix if I get any. :-) |
